Intertek Testing Meets UL8750 LED Safety Standards
03.4.2011 – Los Angeles, CA — The low voltage Light Plugz® LED light engines have met the UL8750 criteria and have obtained ETL Recognized Component certification according to Intertek, a leader in LED testing. The certified LP3, LP5 and LP7 are single chip LED engines drawing up to 7W and are designed for the Cree XP family of LEDs.
The Light Plugz® (LP) is a sleek and self-ballasted product line that incorporates intelligent thermal regulating technology, advanced custom optics, improved heat tolerance and a selection of interchangeable heat sinks to suit many applications for lighting design.
The 9-15V AC/DC Light Plugz® were examined for ANSI/UL 8750, a series of tests for humidity, strain relief, input, normal temperature, and dielectric withstanding voltage. Presently, UL 8750 is the standard safety testing for Light Emitting Diode (LED) equipment for use in lighting products. It addresses potential safety concerns such as risk of overheating, electric shock and fire. The ETL listed mark is proof of electrical product compliance to the above North American safety standards.
A key concern in testing is overheating. In order to prevent shortened lifetime due to excessive heat, the Light Plugz® series includes built-in intelligent thermal regulating technology that offsets the current to reduce heat without complete shut-off. When the temperature drops, the current returns to the previous level of light output.
The LP series is ideal for Title 24 lighting systems, or any application where a designer may consider an MR11 or MR16 bulb, such as indoor decorative fixtures, architectural applications, signage, retail, display, museum, landscape, or commercial installation. Light Plugz® are produced with a wide variety of standard connector bases, custom optics and a variety of lead wire types, thus contributing to their versatility in retrofit and unique indoor or outdoor lighting applications.
